Well as many of you may know, I'm done with work for the bulk of the summer due to my boss having surgery, prayers heading her way! I have to think, there is almost nothing better than relaxing with the fan on, some McDonald's and King of the Hill on T.V. My feet are aching, and my tummy is enjoying the tasty treat I gave myself for a day well done!
The day started as any other work day does, but last night my rest was fitful, and I didn't sleep peacefully until after 1 AM. Oddly enough though, when my alarm went off, as usual I hit the snooze, but I was able to rise from bed rather chipper at 6:30. What was more fascinating, was being ready to leave EARLY for once! I almost didn't know what to do with myself! After heading toward my car, I saw our inside outside cat Scruffy lounging by the basketball hoop that stands next to my car. I offered Scruffy my usual "Hello Scruffy!" bent to pet her, and expected to see a small red flower petal that had become stuck to her paw, but to my horror as she rolled to her back, it was BLOOD! I was mortified to see the rather large, probably fingertip sized and as large I'd say as a nickel, and a small strip of blood along her tummy, likely where she had placed her bleeding paw before. I immediately called mom, being unable to really help as I had work, but luckily she would be coming home soon before she too went to work. While tending to Scruffy I noticed all the disgusting cicadas in the yard and quickly stepped out of their line of fire as it were, and after calling mom I was off to work!
Things were normal when I went up to the house, their small dog, which I believe is a mix between a Shi Tzu, and a teacup poodle, Sugar, was watching me. I tried the side door first and Sugar was there, when she saw me walk toward the door on the porch she was up the stairs! Its so funny to watch her try to figure out where I'll come in! Kirsten was the only kid up at that time, mom was upstairs, dad was finishing breakfast and I went to sit on the couch with Kirsten while she watched a T.V. show. Before I knew it, and before Monica, AKA mom, could tell me, Allyson was out and Kirsten had told me a little about a cousin visiting, to my surprise that cousin was a little one! Maybe a year and a half, and Allyson was carrying her. Little Adaline had been their house guest. With that, the house slowly awoke, Reid was next and I was shocked when I saw the poor things face! He had apparently gotten into poison ivy and had swollen badly! It hurt to look at him! Then Audrey made her debut, and finally Adam. Things moved in their normal pace, and Adaline was on her way with her grandma at 10 AM, and I was off to take Allyson to volleyball camp!
When I got home, it was time for laundry! With laundry almost done, I went to get Allyson, and we had lunch! Adam went down for his nap, after me sadly having to pick him up and carry him, Reid and Allyson went to a friends house, and I relaxed during "Quiet Time". The rest of the afternoon was very quiet, the kids played "Art Class" I cleaned the basement a bit, and supervised their turkey handprint painting. When Kirsten was ready to do the chores, Adam and Audrey were going to join her, but Adam had forgotten his baggy of cheese balls in the basement and feared the girls would leave him, so I promised I wouldn't let them leave without him! When he returned, I told him it was tough! I'd had to give Audrey a bloody nose! I had to wrestle Kirsten away from the door! And I had to pinch Audrey's tush! Each of these made Adam giggle with delight, and he then pinched my tush! I turned around and chased him and gently pinched his. Audrey had to grab something and I said you had better hurry before I have to beat up Adam! Adam then screamed and giggled. Before I knew it, mom, dad, Allyson, and Reid were all home and I was on my own way! It was a busy day, and I was frazzled a few times, but in the end it was a pretty nice day, and a really great way to end the summer work.
With the kids happily handed over to their parents, I headed back into town, grabbed my food and went home for some well deserved relaxation! Dad was taking Scruffy to the vet as I came home, he said she was missing a big chunk of flesh, and the vet said they may have to remove a toe...The poor little angel...She's only here because she was banned from my dad's workplace because of, as dad says, "One stupid individual who doesn't know what he's talking about!" She's been miserable here since she moved here, but if she returns dad could lose his job...It seems a catch 22, but hopefully God will look over Ms. Scruffy and bring her through safely!
Thanks for reading, hope it wasn't too babbly or boring!
Love,
Christina
Poor Scruffy! I will be praying for healing and restoration. Poor darling! I wonder what happened?
ReplyDeleteIt does sound like a WONDERFUL rest and relaxation time after a busy and productive day! The kids you watch sound adorable. They must love you to pieces! It's so amazing to think that we can be role models and inspirational figures to the small people we are around. . .really is humbling to me and a big responsibility as well. You seem to have a wonderful natural ability to work with children. Well done!
I'll be posting an update about Scruffy a little later, and don't want to spoil the surprise just yet! Hehe.
ReplyDeleteAs for the kids, it is inspirational to watch them grow, and to inspire them. Sadly, we have had our moments with them telling me some things that horrified me...The worst was when they discussed a party Reid would be attending, and when some people weren't invited, the answer to why was "they're weird". I was taken aback and a little disgusted...I told the kids I was the weird one in school, the unpopular kid, and even though they said, "I'd be your friend!" I don't know that they really would have.
I did see something amazing though. My sisters friend has a daughter who is in the youngest girl Audrey's class. When they were both in Kindergarten they were good friends, but slowly Audrey went with the cool kids who would make fun of and hurt Jocelyn...Well that same day I told the kids about my unpopular school days, I told them a story. I had heard this from a priest during church one day. He said there was this one boy, and he was not popular and was walking home with all his books one day. Well the popular kids came along and knocked his books out, and one stepped away and said it wasn't cool what they did and helped the boy. They became fast friends, and before you knew it, the boy was popular and on the football team. After graduation, he pulled the other guy aside and told him a scary story. He pretty much said you saved my life that day...I was going to go home and kill myself with my dad's gun, and I had brought all my books because I'd cleaned my locker out to save my mom the pain...I told Allyson and Audrey that story and I think it really touched them, and I told them even a small act of kindness can change someone's life and make them want to live. We can't know what someone is going through. Well later on, my sister told me that Audrey and Jocelyn were back to being friends! This was after telling her that story, and me pulling Audrey aside after school and telling her "Jocelyn is my special friend, and she's kinda lonely at school. She could REALLY use an AWESOME friend like you, could you do that?" Audrey said yes, and I like to think that, and the story touched her enough to go against the "popular" kids and be friends with Jocelyn. It touched my heart and made me beam! Jocelyn was at the point where she was saying she was sick, and they were thinking about transferring her...First grade, and it was that bad...At least it seems things are better!
I also wanted to add, Audrey to my knowledge, never made fun of Jocelyn, she was just in that group. I can't see any of the kids showing real animosity toward any other kid, but they tend to be part of the cool crowd and as many of us know, even if someone is grouped with the cool kids they seem guilty by default. My sister was picked on, and even though she can't remember one girl picking on her, she lumped her in with those who did because she was an associate of those girls.
